clarinet mouthpieces

AND LIGATURES

The mouthpiece is the direct link between the clarinetist and the instrument and is therefore highly subjective. The sound result when playing the clarinet is very individual and cannot be transferred directly from one musician to another. Every player has to find the right mouthpiece for their embouchure and taste. The search for this requires a lot of patience and time due to the many possible combinations and should only be carried out by beginners when the sound can be controlled. The ligature is another component that plays a role in the mouthpiece/reed question. Here too, there is a wide range of options.

BUY OPTIMIZED MOUTHPIECES

All mouthpieces offered in our SEGGELKE STORE are optimized by us according to the specifications of Jochen Seggelke. The inner bore is modified, the edges are checked and worked on if necessary. It is also possible to change the tenons from German to French and vice versa on request. Above all, the mouthpiece bore has a decisive influence on the intonation of your clarinet. If you change your mouthpiece-reed combination, this may also affect the tuning of your instrument.

WHICH MOUTHPIECE

FITS ME?

Without real knowledge of your physical possibilities and requirements, as well as your previous experience as a wind instrument player and your clarinet, our recommendation for your mouthpiece or reed combination can only be approximate. Only during a personal appointment in our workshop can we give you the best advice tailored to your needs.

EMPIRICAL APPROACH IN THE SEARCHING PROCESS

As soon as you describe your requirements, we can look for a reed-mouthpiece combination that suits you and your instrument. Based on the first spontaneous sound result, we then vary the parameters to find your optimum combination.

PATIENCE PAYS OFF

It is important to us that you understand that there are more than two parameters that are at play! All parties involved need to stay concentrated and must not lose sight of the outline. The main thing is to avoid extremes in the parameters of reed thickness, tip-opening and table length. This is the best way for you to find the right mouthpiece!
