“At a meeting of the clarinet choir of the German Clarinet Society in Regensburg in 2006, Jochen Seggelke and his team exhibited all kinds of their clarinets and gave people the opportunity to try them out and talk shop. Curious as I am, I picked up one of the Bb clarinets – … “And it zoomed” would probably be a fitting description of this moment. Because what no other clarinet had managed until then: this one fitted immediately. Tailor-made for my hands! That was new. That was fascinating. That never happened to me before. And all afternoon I was able to play alongside Jochen Seggelke in the clarinet choir on (his) boxwood clarinet! Of course, the sounds convinced me that I had finally found “my” clarinet. A little later I ordered my first Bamberg set of A/Bb clarinets from home. Grenadilla. Slightly reduced mechanics. I couldn’t and didn’t want to afford anything else back then. With the carbon rings on the body, the silver-plated rollers and as one of the first clarinets with “wood-only barrels” (a souvenir from the 2007 in-house exhibition), Jochen Seggelke gave the instruments the nickname “Black Beauties”. I have remained loyal to the workshop and the nicknames I have given my clarinets (“Buchsträumchen” are also among them) ever since. Simply because it fits!“
